Tell us about yourself. Where did you grow up? Go to College? Family life? Full Time Job?
I am a North County native having grown up in Escondido. I went to college at Chapman University in Orange County where I studied Exercise Physiology and I attended graduate school at USC for my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. FIGHT ON! I currently reside in Carlsbad, CA and work as a Physical Therapist in Encinitas, CA.
How did you get into CrossFit?
I found CrossFit in 2012 after a few years of long distance running, redundant work-outs at LA Fitness, and calorie counting, which initially got me good results but was difficult to maintain. I was losing motivation and not getting the results that I wanted, so I decided to try something different. Enter: Carlsbad CrossFit.
How did you become a part of Carlsbad CrossFit (C2)?
When I was ready to try CrossFit I sent emails to a couple of the CrossFit gyms near my apartment and received a prompt response from Lindsay to set up an introductory class. Initially, I was drawn by the programming and not having to worry about what I was going to do each day for my workout. All I had to do was show up and the workout was decided for me. Shortly after getting through the fundamentals classes I realized how awesome the community is and 3 years later Lindsay is my training partner and I have meant many of my friends through CrossFit.
What made you decide to become a CrossFit coach?
With my background in physical therapy and knowledge of exercise and human movement I naturally gravitated toward cueing others in the gym. I started out offering mobility coaching to our members and was persuaded by Chris, Catina, Lindsay, and Rick to get my Level 1 to start coaching. I really enjoy working with athletes and I love that C2 has a variety of ages and ability levels within its membership.
How has CrossFit benefited you beyond the gym?
CrossFit has provided me with a like-minded group of friends, a support system, and a means to connect and get healthy with friends and family. CrossFit has also been a great resource for networking. I found my current job through another member. Additionally, CrossFit has given me an appreciation for what my body can do and allows me to be more effective in my work as a PT.
