Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. (Where did you grow up, where do you work, Family,etc.)

I was born in El Salvador but call Austin, TX my second home.  I have lived in the San Diego area for about 3 years now. I am an infectious disease clinical pharmacist at Tri-City Medical Center.

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of the gym?

I enjoy anything that keeps me active. I love watching the Texas Longhorns football team and the San Antonio Spurs. I have played soccer since age 4 and I continue to play for fun. I like exploring new places both in the US or abroad.

What did you first expect when you joined CrossFit?

After many years of focusing my energy in school and my career I wanted to become a more balanced person in every aspect. Physical and mental health became a priority and I wanted to find something that would help me achieve my fitness goals. CrossFit presented a unique environment that allowed me to stay motivated, engaged, and excited.

What has been the hardest part of joining CrossFit? Most rewarding?

The first couple months of CrossFit were extremely challenging for me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t think about quitting a couple of times, thinking I wasn’t made for this kind of intensity. With the help of our great coaches and the encouragements of the awesome friends I met at the gym, I was able to stick with it and have remained consistent for over two years. The most rewarding part of this journey has been witnessing real results while actually having fun and making friends along the way.

What are some of your goals, personal and fitness, for the future?

I want to continue making progress in terms of strength, technique, and endurance. I also want to make strides towards better nutrition to help supplement the work that I put in at the gym. My future personal goals include building a family and working every day to become a better person. I also want to earn a professional brewing certificate.

What is your favorite workout?

I would say anything that includes power cleans and/or wall balls.

How has CrossFit benefited your life beyond fitness and the gym?

CrossFit has provided me with an outlet. It is a place where I can come and forget about everything else for a bit. I have met great friends that have become part of my life and I have become part of a fitness community that extends beyond our city and country.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in the gym since you’ve joined?

When Rick nicknamed me “Iron Manuel”…the Hispanic version of Iron Man.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our gym?

Regardless of your age or fitness level, you can achieve amazing results if you stay committed and you put in the work. From my experience, C2 is a no judgment zone where members and coaches support and encourage each other every day.
