Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. (Where did you grow up, where do you work, Family, etc.)

I grew up in Los Angeles. Currently I live in Carlsbad with my husband, and three children. I am a special education teacher and a school psychology student. I work for an online charter school as a special education teacher.

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of the gym?

Outside of the gym I am pretty busy with my school and my kiddos! We are a very active family and always going to and from some type of sporting activity.

What did you first expect when you joined CrossFit?

To collapse! No just kidding! When I first joined CrossFit, I didn’t really know what to expect. Of course, I was nervous but everyone made me feel so comfortable and normal. After my first class I was hooked! I still don’t really know what to expect, and that’s one of the reasons why I love it! It’s always challenging in different ways.

What are some of the things you are most proud of accomplishing in and out of the gym?

In the gym I am most proud of my itty bitty handstand push up that I can do! I am terrified of being on my head (for some reason) so this was a big accomplishment for me! Rick has been helping me with it for months and I finally just recently got there.

I‘ve recently been diagnosed with Hoshimoto’s disease and for the past two months have been able to begin to normalize my levels with just diet and exercise. I have a ways to go still, but am on the right track and already feeling so much better! Outside of the gym that is my biggest accomplishment (aside from my kiddos of course).

What has been the hardest part of joining CrossFit? Most rewarding?

The hardest part of joining CrossFit was making it a priority. I quickly realized without committing I was not going to see the results that I wanted. It is so easy to put yourself last when life gets busy. I’ve had to really make it a priority and stick with it. The results have been the most rewarding.

What are some of your goals, personal and fitness, for the future?

Some of my fitness goals are to do pushups without a band, double under without stopping after two, and continue to get stronger. My personal goal. which goes along with my fitness goal is to continue to manage my autoimmune disease for as long as I can with diet and exercise. I want to set a good example for my children and hopefully help to prevent them from going through what I have.

What is your favorite workout?

I don’t have a specific favorite workout, but I love anything that involves squatting, sit ups, running, or practicing some of the moves that I want to improve upon.

How has CrossFit benefited your life beyond fitness and the gym?

I have met some amazing people, feel that I have a great support system of people to cheer me on and who I can also encourage! CrossFit has also benefited my whole family. My husband has recently joined and my kids love the Saturday kids class at Vista. It has really been a family lifestyle change for us and something fun that we can all do together.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in the gym since you’ve joined?

Nothing specific, although I feel like I get myself into some crazy positions anytime I need to get that barbell over my head. That’s something I am not good at!

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start CrossFit?

Four years ago I was really into CrossFit in LA. I never felt healthier at the time. However, I soon got pregnant with my youngest (who is now 3) and stopped going. For the last year I have really wanted to start feeling better and getting healthier. That was when I realized it was time to get back to it. I’m so glad I did!

What results have you achieved since joining our gym?

With the help and encouragement of Chris, Rick, Sage and all the coaches at the gym I’ve been able to lose 20lbs, get stronger, build my endurance and get on a path to becoming healthy again!

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our gym?

Don’t worry about what you look like, how you feel, what you can or cannot do. If you are looking for a change, commit and do it. CrossFit is for all levels. Carlsbad and Vista CrossFit are full of amazing and inspirational people who will be accepting and encouraging. With the coaches dedication, support and guidance you can accomplish your goals. If I can do it, anyone can!
