Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. (Where did you grow up, where do you work, family, etc.)
I’m originally from Michigan- a suburb of Detroit. I moved here after college with my sister.(I graduated from Western Michigan University- same as Lindsay…Go Broncos!) I moved back to the East Coast twice but always came back- it’s so beautiful here! I met my husband in San Diego and now we live in Carlsbad. I’m a stay at home mom to our two crazy boys who are in middle school. They keep me very busy!

What hobbies do you enjoy outside of the gym?
My family and I enjoy the outdoors- hiking, biking and camping.  Also, we love going to the beach. We feel so lucky to live here!

What did you first expect when you joined CrossFit?
I expected to learn many new things! I was very nervous when I first came in here but I knew I wanted to try. I loved it right away! I know it’s because Rick, Chris, and Sage made me feel comfortable immediately and like I really could learn this stuff. The three of them are genuine and very nurturing. They continue to be patient with my questions and explain movements/workouts until I get it. In fact, every coach I’ve worked with here has been exceptional! I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 years since I started this…and I still learn something new every time I come in.

What are some of the things you are most proud of accomplishing?
Any of the barbell work is huge to me! I know I have far to go but the fact that I can do some of these lifts is really remarkable. I never even touched a barbell before coming here. I used to be afraid of the weight room. Now it’s my favorite part!

What has been the hardest part of joining CrossFit? Most rewarding?
The hardest part was having the courage to try something so different. I thought about emailing this place for over a month before I finally did. I thought I might be too old. The most rewarding has been discovering all the things I can do and meeting some really great people. Everyone is so supportive and fun that I can’t wait to see them! It’s very special.

What are some of your goals, personal and fitness, for the future?
I want to do muscle ups! Not just one- but many in row whenever I want. I’d like to keep learning and improving with CrossFit and in my everyday life.

What is your favorite workout?
I don’t have one quite yet, but I know I like simple, straight forward ones with no complicated time factors or rep schemes.

How has CrossFit benefited your life beyond fitness and the gym?
I’ve learned to be more present in the moment. When I’m here doing the lifting and workouts- that’s all I am thinking about.  I can see how beneficial that is so I am trying to be more focused with my family. And learning all the complex weight lifts has given me more confidence in general.

What is the funniest thing that has happened to you in the gym since you’ve joined?
I can’t think of just one…mostly the people here make me laugh so much. I know every time I come in I’m going to have fun.

What made you decide you wanted/needed to start CrossFit?
My workouts were so boring at my regular gym. I was just going through the motions and not pushing myself.  Then on a vacation with my husband’s family I found out my sister-in-law was doing CrossFit in Chicago. She couldn’t stop talking about it.  I have her to thank for pointing me in this direction.

What results have you achieved since joining our gym?
I can do strict pull-ups and kipping pull-ups!

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining our program?
I would say do it! You’ll surprise yourself, meet great people and it’s super cool!!
